摘要: In 1997, the domestic listing of jaguar ( Panthera onca) under Endangered Species Act (ESA) made killing wild jaguars in U.S. a federal crime and helped protect animals against accidental harm from government predator control activities. Since then, multi-agency Jaguar Conservation Team (JAGCT) has promoted education research on jaguar, but not fulfilled its promise to address habitat conservation. JAGCT's ambivalence is traced political ideology uncertainty as whether recovery effort for along northern periphery geographic range warranted. I argue that American Southwest significant conservation standpoint. A restoration strategy should include ESA planning critical designation; professionally mediated workshops locally perceived conflicts between protection, property rights, ranching interests; bi-national campaign core reserve Mexico, secure corridors leading Southwest, promote predator-friendly management livestock.
