摘要: Abstract Several chiral liquid crystalline materials derived from the lactic acid have been studied with aim to establish effect of bulky lateral substituents on their self-assembling properties. A chlorine atom and methoxy group used as in ortho position ether phenyl ring far centre. All possess tilted ferroelectric smectic C* phase a broad temperature range. In dependence molecular structure namely type substituent length chain, cholesteric mesophase, orthogonal paraelectric A* crystal mesophases detected. Lateral substitution results decrease both clearing point crystallisation well distinct increase spontaneous polarization. Bulky slightly suppresses polarisation but strongly increases melting that monotropic peculiarity SmC* phase. Mesomorphic, spontaneous, structural dielectric properties substituted compounds were established compared those non-substituted ones order contribute better understanding structure–property relationship for such materials.
