摘要: Abstract A theory of fatigue crack initiation along PSBs based on free energy considerations has been developed. The PSB is modelled as an accumulation vacancy dipoles. total the system increases with cycle number due to increase in elastic strain energy. It shown that there exists a critical above which initial state dislocation slip band becomes energetically unstable, leading microcrack within PSB. SN curves for can be calculated and resulting depths determined. correctly predicts several observed phenomena initiation: (i) easier air than vacuum; (ii) at room temperature cryogenic temperatures; (iii) just-initiated cracks are shallow.
