摘要: In the serious decline of European otters (Lutra lutra) over last decades, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are considered to be one major factors. As no experiments can conducted with otters, an eco-epidemiological study was performed derive observed effect concentrations (NOECs) for PCBs in otter. A strong negative correlation found between hepatic vitamin and biphenyl (PCB) expressed as TCDD-equivalents (TEQs), coinciding a higher incidence infectious diseases. The no-effect concentration reduction 2 ng TEQ/g lipid, 10-fold already animals 5 lipid. TEQ-levels measured reporter gene assay based on chemical-activated luciferase expression (the CALUX assay) correlated well TEQ levels calculated non- mono-ortho PCB concentrations. blood liver when lipid basis. living captive plasma (either gas chromatography (GC) or measurement) were lower than feral positively total free thyroid hormone but not retinol levels.
