摘要: In the serious decline of European otters (Lutra lutra) over last decades, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are considered to be one major factors. As no experiments can conducted with otters, an eco-epidemiological study was performed derive observed effect concentrations (NOECs) for PCBs in otter. A strong negative correlation found between hepatic vitamin and biphenyl (PCB) expressed as TCDD-equivalents (TEQs), coinciding a higher incidence infectious diseases. The no-effect concentration reduction 2 ng TEQ/g lipid, 10-fold already animals 5 lipid. TEQ-levels measured reporter gene assay based on chemical-activated luciferase expression (the CALUX assay) correlated well TEQ levels calculated non- mono-ortho PCB concentrations. blood liver when lipid basis. living captive plasma (either gas chromatography (GC) or measurement) were lower than feral positively total free thyroid hormone but not retinol levels. Hepatic physiologically relevant parameter. NOEC translated into fish sediment. response 50–500 μl proved sensitive non-destructive biomarker quantification internal
