摘要: Summary Purpose:  Theory of mind (ToM) is an important prerequisite to social behavior. This study evaluated ToM in patients with temporal (TLE) or frontal lobe epilepsy (FLE) aiming determine the cognitive aspects, severity, and pathophysiologic mechanisms impairment focal epilepsy. Methods:  One hundred thirty-eight TLE (n = 109) FLE (n = 29) 69 healthy subjects underwent Faux Pas task (FPT), which evaluates recognition comprehension others’ mental states, neuropsychological tests for other functions. Key Findings:  Factor analysis all test scores yielded two factors (Recognizing faux pas, FP; Excluding nonexistent FP) distinct from Control, Language, Matching, Praxis factors. With respect subjects, both showed correct exclusion FPs but significantly lower real FPs. were also impaired patients. In whole patient group, schooling group membership predicted impairment. patients, states was by disease duration, whereas patients’ affects intentions associated early age seizure onset medial sclerosis (MTLS). Significance:  Focal impairs advanced abilities. may affect online performances owing long-lasting dysfunctions prefrontal areas. MTLS provoke selective deficits due damage, dysfunctions, interference development. Future studies are needed implications on behavior quality life.
