摘要: The synthesis and export of aerolysin, an extracellular protein toxin released by the gram-negative bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila, was studied pulse-labeling with [35S]methionine. synthesized as a higher-molecular-weight precursor. This processed cotranslationally, resulting in appearance within cell mature protein, which then exported to supernatant. Precursor aerolysin accumulated cells incubated presence carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenyl hydrazone, substance also inhibited from cell. entrapped could not be shocked cells, although it digested protease applied cells. translocated across inner membrane pleiotropic mutants periplasm. results indicate that more than one step is required for does cross outer membranes simultaneously.
