摘要: Investigations of pollen production, modern pollen–vegetation relationships and pollen?stratigraphic changes have been undertaken from three woodlands under coppice management to establish the impact that woodland techniques (the periodic cutting broadleaved trees shrubs for wood fodder) on representation. The number inflorescences (catkins/flowers) produced over length a rotation has quantified species; Corylus avellana, Alnus glutinosa Tilia cordata. For C. avellana is significantly higher in early years after coppicing. A. particularly T. cordata flowering suppressed coppicing only recovers slowly. In later by all species related height regrowths therefore competition light. However, grains per inflorescence appears not be age rotation. rain within coppiced largely reflects differences vegetation areas rather than variations resulting their High resolution pollen-stratigraphic records small ponds record long-term trends, while adjacent difficult detect. Nevertheless, results these studies are broadly consistent with production investigations together show shift canopy under-storey may render some taxa (notably cordata) palynologically invisible. Model simulations, corrections through rotation, types basin; ponds/hollows, lakes wet glutinosa. These explore intensity scale assemblages mixed deciduous woodland. simulated compared mid–late Holocene temperate regions north-west Europe where archaeological/historical evidence suggests likely practiced. Some representation recorded diagrams hollows wooded landscapes southern Scandinavia England being managed. Notably northern Alpine Forelands East Anglia compatible long-standing ideas was managed landscape during Neolithic. Further required determine whether practices produce distinct signatures processes wider range species.
