Ocean transients as observed by Geos 3 coincident orbits

摘要: Ocean mesoscale transients are revealed in Geos 3 altimeter data. The brought out by inspection of the differences within groups coincident orbits western subtropical North Atlantic Ocean. Each five groups, used study, is composed three individual orbits, lying 2 km mean orbit group. difference each from group contains sea level and instrumental noise; steady state geoid removed. noise dominates spectrum below 200 wavelength, whereas ocean transient features dominate above km. At low frequency end spectra time separation may attenuate signal long wavelength transients.
