摘要: By the use of an ATR technique we have found that infrared absorption p-nitrobenzoate, formed on Ag island film about 5 nm thick, is enhanced by a factor order 10. Only vibrational modes involving change in dipole moment benzoate ion perpendicular to macroscopic surface are p-polarized radiation alone, indicating electric field evanescent wave polarized plays dominant role excitation process. A monolayer stearic acid deposited underlayer 5nm thick gave another example enhancement. Although mechanism enhancement not fully elucidated, existing model based collective electron resonances islands applicable present case, since it predicts resonance can be excited irrespective polarization state beam.
