摘要: BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Adequate birth preparedness and emergency/complication readiness (BP/CR) planning could determine the survival of a pregnant woman her unborn child in maternal emergency. The study assessed adequacy BP/CR plans antenatal clinic attendees Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. METHODS: Pregnant women (less than 36 weeks gestation) attending clinics selected health facilities were serially recruited into after they had given verbal informed consent. Data collected with purpose-designed questionnaire. SPSS version 11 statistical software was used for data entry analysis. RESULTS: Four hundred recruited; 284 (71%) registered care by 20 gestation. Concerning delivery planning, 350 (87.5%) decided their place although 32 (9.1%) these planned to deliver mission houses or at home; 351 (87.8%) started purchase items needed newborn care, 289 (71.0%) identified someone accompany them facility while 259 (64.8%) saving money delivery. Regarding emergency complication readiness, knowledge signs severe illness which immediate should be sought an appropriate low, 113 (28.3%) respondents able mention 4 more such without prompting; 249 (62.3%) made arrangements transportation 45 (11.3%) potential blood donor. CONCLUSION: By criteria, 61% studied adequate preparations 4.8% ready emergency/complication. It is recommended that greater emphasis during sessions.
