Mean and variance of coincidence counting with deadtime

摘要: Abstract We analyze the first and second moments of coincidence-counting process for a system affected by paralyzable (extendable) deadtime with (possibly unequal) deadtimes in each singles channel. consider both “accidental” “genuine” coincidences, derive exact analytical expressions number recorded coincidence events under various scenarios. The results include an form rate combined effects decay, background, deadtime. analysis confirms that counts are not exactly Poisson, but suggests Poisson statistical model is used positron emission tomography image reconstruction reasonable approximation since mean variance nearly equal.
