摘要: After the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake, Taiwanese government immediately issued new guidelines prohibiting construction of structures for human occupancy within Chelungpu fault zone. However, these were not based upon an in-depth hazard analysis near-fault regions. The positions more than 80% 2,492 victims earthquake found by our research team. A Victim Attribute Database has been compiled that includes GPS coordinates positioned as well other attribute data associated with victims. human-fatality rates in regions have analyzed regard to distances from fault, hanging-wall and footwall areas, building type. severity at is inversely proportional causative i.e., closer distance, higher rate observed. who lived proximity areas also significantly those especially on either side 1,000 m surface trace. In terms different types, factors include capacity buildings resistant strong shaking level ground-motion greatly affected areas. Therefore simply active zone would be insufficient method reducing number potential victims; a nationwide effort should undertaken upgrade resist shaking.
