Evolutionary History of the HAP2/GCS1 Gene and Sexual Reproduction in Metazoans

摘要: The HAP2/GCS1 gene first appeared in the common ancestor of plants, animals, and protists, is required male gamete for fusion to female unicellular organisms Chlamydomonas Plasmodium. We have identified a genome sequence sponge Amphimedon queenslandica. This finding provides continuous evolutionary history from into metazoan lineage. Divergent versions are also present genomes some but not all arthropods. By examining expression cnidarian Hydra, we found evidence supporting hypothesis that was used extant metazoans it retains function modern cnidarians.
