摘要: Objectives To estimate the cost of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) and related signs symptoms in infants to third party payer parents. Study design illness (COI) infant FGIDs, a two-stage process was applied: systematic literature review COI calculation. As no pertinent papers were found review, ‘de novo’ analysis performed. For latter, potential costs for (the National Health Service (NHS) England) parents/carers treatment FGIDs calculated, by using publicly available data. In constructing calculation, estimates assumptions (where necessary) chosen provide lower bound (minimum) overall cost. doing so, interpretation calculation is that true can be than estimated. Results Our estimated total treating England at least £72.3 million per year 2014/2015 which £49.1 million NHS expenditure on prescriptions, community care hospital treatment. Parents incurred £23.2 million through purchase over counter remedies. Conclusions The presented here likely significant underestimate as only used where applicable, example, alternative therapies, inpatient treatments or diagnostic tests, time off work parents could not adequately omitted from number kind prescribed products sold treat suggest there are gaps between guidelines, emphasise parental reassurance nutritional advice, their implementation.
