摘要: Widespread deployment of Event Data Recorders (EDRs), sometimes called "black boxes," promise a new and unique glimpse the events that occur during highway traffic collision. The EDR in colliding vehicle can provide comprehensive snapshot entire crash event (pre-crash, crash, post-crash). In 2004, an estimated 40 million passenger vehicles were equipped with EDRs. By carefully collecting analyzing details provided by growing number EDR-equipped vehicles, state transportation agencies, federal safety research community have unprecedented opportunity to understand interaction vehicle-roadside-driver system as experienced thousands U.S. accidents each year. State agencies expect both immediate longer term benefits from collection data. Also, incur startup operational costs associated data collection. EDRs are rapidly evolving and, many ways, still immature technology. This NCHRP project has developed several recommendations for enhancement these devices meet specific needs analysis. These include adoption standardized set elements included National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Notice Proposed Rulemaking on (2004), addition specialized list which would assist roadside research, well other required improvements performance download methods. also recommended Database format seek collect systematically store While preceding technological issues challenging, they solvable.
