Postoperative radiotherapy of keloids: a twenty-year experience

摘要: In spite of several treatment modalities available, there is no method able to guarantee absolute success in the therapeutic approach keloids. To evaluate effectiveness and safety postoperative radiotherapy we performed a retrospective study on 156 keloids, histologically ascertained, treated by means orthovoltage last twenty years. The total doses administered ranged from 15 40 Gy. started within 7 days surgery 127 lesions (81.4%), 3 weeks remaining 29 (18.6%). Surgical methods minimize tension at wound sites were adopted. follow-up 6 216 months. After irradiation complete remission was obtained 141 (90.4%) partial response (9.6%). five-year relapse-free rate 86.68%. Cosmetic results evaluated as good or acceptable 82.73% lesions. Afterwards, 17 (10.89%) have relapsed. No stochastic non effects been observed.
