KGaA, Weinheim. We present a comparison of three strategies for the introduction new biorefineries: standalone and centralized drop-in, which are placed within cluster chemical industries, distributed is connected to other plants by pipeline. The aim was quantify efficiencies production ranges support local transition circular economy based on biomass usage. products considered biomethane (standalone) hydrogen/biomethane sustainable town gas (centralized drop-in drop-in). analysis flow-sheet simulation different process designs at 100MWbiomass scale includes following aspects: advanced drying systems, coproduction ethanol, power-to-gas conversion direct heating or water electrolysis. For plant, efficiency in range 78-82.8% LHVa.r.50% (lower value as-received with 50% wet basis moisture), maximum 72MWCH4 , plants, 82.8-98.5% levels 85.6MWSTG 22.5MWH2 /51MWCH4 respectively. It concluded that offer no substantial advantages over unless methane desired product.
