摘要: To evaluate nutritional interventions in preterm infants, a simple, accurate assessment of the type growth, that is, change body composition through relative contributions lean tissue and fat mass to weight gain, is needed. Bioelectrical impedance may provide such method. The aim this study was develop resistivity coefficients appropriate for use bioelectrical spectroscopy (BIS) analysis water volumes infants. A total 99 infants were enrolled (mean gestational age 32 completed weeks). Total (TBW) extracellular (ECW) determined using reference methods deuterium bromide dilution. BIS measurements taken at same time allowed calculation coefficients. Predictions TBW ECW obtained these then validated against separate cohort Data available 91 BIS-predicted correlated well with measured (Pearson’s rp=0.825 0.75, respectively). There small bias (TBW 10 ml 40 ml) but large limits agreement (TBW±650 ml ±360 ml). appears have limited clinical utility; however, relatively means it be useful within population or comparisons between groups which rather than individual values are compared.
