摘要: This article analyzes Luiz Inacio da Silva's resounding reelection victory in the wake of corruption scandals implicating his party and government. Voters with lower levels economic security schooling played a critical role returning Lula to presidency. Least prone punish president for corruption, poorer Brazilians were also most readily persuaded by provision material benefits. Minimum wage increases income transfer program Bolsa Familia expanded purchasing power poor. Thus, executive central state resources allowed consolidate social base that had responded only weakly earlier, party-based strategy grassroots mobilization progressive macrosocietal change. Although won handily, PT's delegation Congress shrank first time, voting bases diverged. The PT benefited far less than himself from government investment policy.
