摘要: Abstract In decerebrate, paralyzed cats, ventilated by a servo-respirator in accordance with phrenic nerve activity, we examined the influence of lung volume on activities phrenic, hypoglossal and mylohyoid nerves. When inflation was briefly withheld, durations inspiration (T I ) expiration E all three nerves increased. The relative increase activity greatly exceeded that apparent earlier course o f inspiration. This response enhanced hypercapnia isocapnic hypoxia. responses were quite variable: withholding augmented insipiratory some but expiratory discharge others. Sustained increases end-expiratory induced application 3–4 cm H2O positive pressure (PEEP). Steady-state PEEP did not or breathing pattern. Bilateral vagotomy increased T , No to could be discerned after vagal section. results provide further definition vagally mediated, dependent reflexes control upper airway muscles. These are well suited relieve prevent obstruction.
