摘要: Unlike a number of other countries, where legislation requires that all landfills are lined with impermeable materials, in the United Kingdom great reliance is placed upon attenuation contaminants which occurs as leachate seeps through intergranular unsaturated zones beneath sites. Much research has been reported supports this view, although recent years effectiveness and reliability these processes subject much debate. This paper describes, presents results from, major investigation funded by Department Environment at site Southern England landfill design incorporated an engineered, semi-permeable blanket, using locally available calcareous sands silt, have emplaced to minimum depth 6 m above water table. Installation over 100 sampling monitoring instruments within zone before waste disposal began June 1982 made it possible obtain samples from saturated zones, gas zone, measure soil pressure, electrical conductivity, temperature situ, 3 monthly intervals since date, allow movement decomposition products solid wastes be monitored.
