摘要: Grand Rapids, the first city in world to implement controlled water fluoridation, has served as a model for thousands of other communities. Fluoridation is one greatest public health and disease-preventive measures all time. Its advantages include effectiveness all, ease delivery, safety, equity, low cost. Today, nearly 56 percent US population lives fluoridated communities (62% those on central supplies). Previously observed caries reductions one-half two-thirds are no longer attainable United States because fluoride methods products have reduced prevalence areas, thus diluting measurement effectiveness, benefits fluoridation dispersed many ways persons nonfluoridated areas. Water itself, however, remains effective it ever was among groups at high risk dental caries. Contrary early beliefs that stressed importance preeruptive exposure, also provides an important source topical facilitates remineralization. Although data safety compelling, future progress will be affected by economic, political, perception factors.
