摘要: Background The role of oxidative stress in temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) has been studied using synovial fluid, to evaluate (im)balance and its potential the onset and/or progression disease. Objective This review aimed association between markers etiopathogenesis TMJ dysfunction by means fluid analysis. Methods Two independent reviewers searched electronic databases from inception March 2019: PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, EMBASE, TRIPDATABASE, SCOPUS, Google Scholar. following key search terms were used: Temporomandibular Joint Disorders OR Disc Dysfunction Syndrome Facial Pain AND Free Radicals Oxidative Stress. Data extracted selected articles, including study design, sample profile, disease reported, diagnostic method, reactive oxygen nitrogen species evaluated, enzymatic non-enzymatic antioxidants techniques used measure free radicals antioxidants. Results After title abstract screening 6974 results, full-text reading, 19 studies included. All articles cross-sectional observational studies. Enzymatic antioxidant defences appeared be reduced these patients, resulting establishment process. In addition, showed a positive correlation severity intra-articular TMD increase damage. Conclusion stress, whether an oxygen/nitrogen or decrease defences, combination both, may associated with maintenance
