摘要: Background and Purpose: Paragangliomas are tumors of neural crest origin commonly arising from the carotid body, vagal nerve, or jugular bulb. The definitive treatment for these is surgical resection, often augmented with pre-operative embolization due their highly vascular nature. We present our experience examining efficacy safety endovascular rare tumors. Methods: A review patient’s diagnosed paragangliomas who underwent over a 5-year period (2002-2007) was conducted. tumor subtype, embolization, method rate complication were noted. Results: total 38 patients selective arterial paraganglioma using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles ranging in size 100-1000 microns. subtypes treated body (n = 20), glomus vagale 10), jugulare 8). average age at presentation 44 years (range, 15-81). Twenty-two female sixteen male. most common artery embolized ascending pharyngeal branch external artery. Post-embolization angiography revealed an decrease blood flow to 75%. With exception transient facial pain documented 1 patient, there no known complications embolization. Conclusions: PVA prior resection very safe efficacious procedure that may reduce operative loss associated morbidity.
