摘要: Abstract The transition to a future electricity system based primarily on wind and solar PV is examined for all regions in the contiguous US. We present optimized pathways build-up of power least backup energy needs as well cost obtained with simplified, lightweight model long-term high resolution weather-determined generation data. In absence storage, pathway which achieves best match load, thus resulting requirements, generally favors combination both technologies, wind/solar (photovoltaics) mix about 80/20 fully renewable scenario. development seen start 100% technology lowest average costs first, but increasing installations, economically unfavorable excess pushes it toward minimal pathway. Surplus entailed can be reduced significantly by combining power, and/or absorbing generation, example storage or transmission, coupling other sectors.
