摘要: Although laboratory studies demonstrate that cooling to ecologically relevant temperatures and/or at rates induces rapid cold-hardening (RCH) in a variety of insects, little is known the induction RCH nature. In present study, caged Drosophila melanogaster (1–2 days posteclosion) from colony established with flies collected locally are placed field setting (i.e. approximately 4-cm deep leaf litter beneath an apple tree Mount Pleasant, Michigan) during late afternoon (18.00 h EST; 05.00 GMT). As cage temperature falls 22.1 ± 0.8 10.1 0.1 °C between 18.00 and 06.00 h, proportion surviving transfer –6 for 1 increases 10.0 6.2% 68.1 7.2%. When obtained cages, then cooled 23 0.33 min−1, more female remain behaviourally responsive (clinging surfaces, exhibiting active righting response, climbing) 8–12 (24.00 samples) or 7–12 (06.00 samples), than do those sampled cages kept incubator (23 °C). Field reduces chill coma 8.7 0.2 7.1 24.00 6.6 h. These data that, recently culture D. melanogaster, natural changes microenvironmental induce can benefit organism encountered
