摘要: Abstract We generated a three-dimensional (3-D) model of human airway tissues in order to study initiation inhalational form anthrax infection. The system was designed the air–blood barrier respiratory tract represented by epithelial cells and macrophages. When grown on collagen/fibronectin gel support at an air–liquid interface, formed cell layers morphologically resembling those vivo. These preformed cultures were further supplemented with monocytes/macrophages isolated from blood. After 2–5 days co-culture, monocytes differentiated into phenotype resident macrophages, which evaluated expression specific surface markers. This allowed sorting out role each type found air lung. interdependence macrophages clearance spores airways capacity protect infection demonstrated.
