摘要: Most studies on termite food selection have focused a single nutrient per choice, however, termites, like all animals, must balance multiple nutrients in their diet. While most that use multi-nutrient approaches focus macromolecules, the ability to intake of inorganic is also vital organisms. In this study, we used geometric framework test effects feeding. We presented subsets Reticulitermes flavipes colonies with enriched varying levels KCl, MgSO4, and FePO4. Each trial varied two three while third was kept constant. The amount consumed measured over weeks. termites’ feeding patterns during study suggested they fed until reached limit for MgSO4. This result suggests termites were using rule compromise such would consume KCl or FePO4 order avoid overeating Thus, are able regulate nutrients, by doing so, adjust from resources maintain an target.
