Pediatric drug therapy in the emergency department: Does it meet FDA-approved prescribing guidelines?

摘要: To determine how often Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved age-specific prescribing guidelines were followed in pediatric emergency department (ED) patients, the charts for all children presenting to a university hospital ED during 30-day period reviewed. Of 359 who received drug therapy ED, 43% one or more drugs not approved use at patients' respective ages. 296 discharged with prescriptions, 16% prescribed outside of FDA-approved based on age criteria.
