Diversity of invertebrate trawl bycatch off Cuddalore, Parangipettai and Pazhayar, south-east coast of India

摘要: Invertebrate diversity along the south-east coast of India is rich and varied. Though many studies with respect to finfish bycatch resources have been carried out during yesteryears, only scanty information available on invertebrate from tropical waters. The importance invertebrates caught in trawl has recognised recently by scientific community, as utility manifold. present study was undertaken investigate generate species richness landed Cuddalore, Parangipettai Pazhayar India. inshore waters (5- 35 m depth) Feb 2010 – Jan 2011. Altogether 66 75 76 were recorded study. percentage composition revealed that Cuddalore Parangipettai, brachyuran crabs dominant group (37% 46% respectively) followed cephalopods (35% 31% respectively), while Pazhayar, gastropods dominanted (29%) shrimps (24%) other meagre. Diversity indices estimated showed variation between regions. Shannon-Weiner index ranged 2.035 4.776; Margalef’s 2.306 6.782; Pielou’s evenness varied 0.488 0.957; taxonomic 45.08 83.53 total phylogenetic 733.33 1716.8.
