摘要: Planning and operating effective transportation networks rely heavily on the knowledge of current future transport patterns, which in turn relies land use urbanization levels an area. However, while various organizations have developed classification schemes to classify areas by levels, there has been no literature assess suitability such for planning research applications, considering also status quo infrastructure systems under a comprehensive approach. The goal this study is compare well-established United States evaluate their ability capture key elements two-fold relationship between levels. To achieve goal, authors consider main passenger other case Midwest region. results suggest that each scheme’s criteria, as well level aggregation considered, depend primary purpose scheme serve. Additionally, all are inadequate since they do not affect patterns needs framework. Finally, address above issues, design new focuses transportation-related aspects, captures elements, considers heterogeneity within rural areas. ultimate outcome will be geographic framework suitable system’s evaluation.
