Determination of radon exhalation from granite, dolerite and marbles decorative stones of the Azad Kashmir area, Pakistan

摘要: Extensive export quality reserves of granite, dolerite and marbles which are used for interior decorations as wall facing, paving floors, kitchen counter tops, etc., available in Azad Kashmir. Since these stones contain radium trace amounts, therefore, its use a building material may be potential source indoor radon. In order to assess health hazards due the material, samples were collected from different mining sites. After processing, placed plastic containers box type radon detectors installed it at height 25 cm above surface samples. The then hermetically sealed. 60 days exposure radon, CR-39 etched 6 M NaOH 70 C 9 h measured track densities related concentration. Radon exhalation rate form studied gran- ites, marble varied 87 ± 26 353 36 mBq m -2 -1 ,7 9± 650 42 90 324 , respec- tively. These decorative therefore buildings purposes observed values smaller than that EPA recommended-action level.
