Assessing the impact of sports mega-events in transition economies: EURO 2012 in Poland and Ukraine

摘要: Developing economies have increasing interest in hosting sports mega-events. Poland and Ukraine are the finalists to host Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) 2012 Championship. Although event will attract a large number spectators television viewers, simple cost benefit analysis indicates that costs exceed direct economic impact related increased tourist spending by wide margin presence positive benefits depends on from factors like improvements transportation infrastructure. Sports mega-events may not be effective regional development vehicles transition economies.
