摘要: Since the late 1950s, global agricultural output has increased on a scale unprecedented in human history. Much of productivity increase is attributed to development high yielding crop varieties, intensive use inorganic fertilisers and pesticides, irrigation expansion capital farm management. In 1970s euphoria surrounding Green Revolution was questioned wake energy crisis growing awareness long-term environmental consequences. Soil erosion, ground water contamination, soil compaction decline natural fertility, destruction traditional social systems, led reappraisal what were still considered be most advanced production techniques. Agricultural research since expanded its scope include sustainable resource-efficient cropping systems management practices.
