摘要: Population displacement due to riverbank erosion is a se- vere problem in Bangladesh. Many displacees migrate urban centers find shelter and employment. This paper examines the land occu- pancy patterns, socio-economic status, social contacts among squatters who have been displaced by are cur- rently residing Serajganj township Two hundred seven households were selected at random from three major squatter concentrations town. A questionnaire survey was administered 1985 collect data. Interviews of families indicate that they living on fringes everyday life township. An over- whelming majority live unused government risk for eviction. The local administration views their presence as temporary. They source cheap labor town little contact with rural relatives. Discriminatory practices, economic hardship, reciprocity networks largely influence status integration into mainstream living. In view these conditions, some policy measures discussed.
