摘要: To determine the impact of patient sex on operative characteristics, short-term complications, and long-term functional outcomes following ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) for chronic ulcerative colitis (CUC). A retrospective review was performed all patients undergoing two- or three-stage IPAA CUC at our institution between January 2002 August 2013. Patient demographics, 30-day postoperative from annual survey data were analyzed comparing men women patients. During study period, 911 IPAAs (542 men, 369 women) performed. Men older more often obese (both p < 0.01). Use a approach laparoscopic similar women, but operation length, intraoperative blood loss, hospital length stay higher in (all p < 0.05). At 30 days, had increased rates superficial surgical site infections urinary tract p < 0.05), while retention (p = 0.03). Five hundred forty-six (60%; 307 239 responded to post with median follow-up 5.1 5.0 years respectively. Women reported frequency daytime stools early this difference resolved time. Other similar. impacts complexity, stay, outcomes, initial function. These findings underscore need adjust preoperative counseling regarding based sex.
