摘要: We present a three-phase exploration of mobile messaging to address the high rate maternal mortality in low-income, urban Pakistan, with focus on identifying deviations from previously published findings about interventions developing-world health.Phase 1 was qualitative study healthcare staff and pregnant mothers. It found that while deeper medical challenges were beyond reach ICT interventions, many problems could be partially addressed through mobile-phone system issued health-related information reminders. In Phase 2, we ran randomized controlled trial 180 mothers split into four arms based mode by which messages sent -- (1) no (control), (2) SMS text messages, (3) recorded voice (4) combination messages. Consistent prior research, receiving exhibited dramatic gains knowledge pre-natal care, though whether increased follow-up hospital visits not clear.Phase 3 involved phone interviews participants 2 evaluation. Complex family dynamics involving husbands mothers-in-law mediate impact both positive negative effects.
