摘要: The aim of the study is to analyze effectiveness rigid internal fixation (RIF) for treating edentulous mandibular fractures. Because low incidence fractures in mandible, there no consensus optimal treatment it. This included all patients with fracture diagnosis, who were treated at Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires from November 1991 July 2011. Data such as age, gender, etiology and location fracture, surgical approach, type osteosynthesis used, postoperative complications analyzed. A total 18 patients, 76.2 years mean 12 females (66.6%), presented a 35 body was most common localization Twenty-five received RIF, mainly approached extraorally. Reconstruction plates used. Fracture reduction considered satisfactory 96.5%, 22.2% 11.1% reoperations needed. Open RIF demonstrated be reliable method Nevertheless, lack high-level recommendation publication support this.
