HEATING OF TOROIDAL PLASMAS IN UNIVERSITIES IN JAPAN

摘要: Abstract Experimental studies on heating of toroidal plasmas in universities Japan are summarized. In major fusion activities oriented to the development so-called alternative concepts, that could remove some difficulties such as pulse operation, complicated structure, and low plasma beta, tokamaks must overcome develop into reactors. From this point view, purpose is not only study efficient method for general, but also find ways produce high density temperature without need employ Joule-heating tokamak plasmas. Three concepts Nagoya Bumpy Torus (NBT) JIPP T-II, stellarator-tokamak hybrid, both at Institute Plasma Physics, University, Heliotron-E Kyoto University. Ion cyclotron (ICH) studied NBT where impurity oxygen ions observed increase from 10 eV approximately 60 with 80 kW input when ICH tuned protons. Provided Coulomb collisions energy transfer between proton ion, estimated be 200-300 eV. Lower hybrid (LHH) neutral beam injection (NBI) examined showing efficiency 1 eV/kW LHH up 120 2 NBI 50 kW. The stellarator configuration less because larger loss region due helical ripples. Electron (ECH) applied T-II. former, produced bulk electrons heated a few 100 by several ECH maximum limited microwave frequency it equals electron frequency. latter, Joule-heated detected temperature. Turbulent experiment TRIAM-1 Kyushu University shows 140 240 within 200 μsec. interesting feature lies observation remain surface cm thickness continuing 500
