摘要: Abstract Candida tropicalis fungaemia is a serious opportunistic infection. Eighteen consecutive patients with C. diagnosed within five-year period were studied retrospectively. All had haematological malignancies treated by chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Antifungal prophylaxis included nystatin (20mg daily) for receiving chemotherapy, and fluconazole (200mg undergoing BMT. Sixteen refractory advanced malignancies. neutropenic, central venous catheters, treatment broad-spectrum antibiotics at the time of fungaemia. Septic shock skin emboli most common presenting features. In seven cases, was preceded positive culture in urine. Concomitant bacteraemia found 11 which six cases due to Staphylococcus aureus . The overall mortality rate 56%. predominance chemotherapy-treated developing this series might be attributable omission prophylaxis. clinicopathologic features risk factors identified study may help design better strategies often-lethal complication.
