Plastic ingestion by Laysan Albatross chicks on Sand Island, Midway Atoll, in 1994 and 1995

摘要: Laysan Albatross chicks from Midway Atoll, North Pacific Ocean, were assessed in 1994 and 1995 for impacts of plastic ingestion. Masses incidence compared between birds found dead "natural causes" those injured by motor vehicles. Naturally killed had significantly greater masses their proventriculi gizzards lighter body lower fat indices than but otherwise healthy chicks. Ingested probably does not cause significant direct mortality chicks, likely causes physiological stress as a result satiation mechanical blockages.
