摘要: A method is developed to assess hot mix asphalt (HMA) stability during compaction in the design process, and prior conducting further expensive time consuming testing. The consists of a mathematical derivation, an experimental procedure determine new index, referred as contact energy index (CEI). CEI reflects ability aggregate structure develop contacts among particles when subjected shear stresses. HMA increases with increase CEI. sensitivity changes components evaluated by analyzing mixes that differ their nominal maximum size, gradation, source aggregate, percent natural sand, content. In addition, compared mechanical properties number mixes. results show captures influence constituents on stability, has very good correlation properties.
