Absence of Bacteremia After Diagnostic Biopsy of the Cervix: Chemoprophylactic Implications

摘要: Blood cultures taken from 40 women before and within one to five minutes after biopsy of the cervix were bacteriologically negative. Despite special culturing techniques, transient bacteremia with aerobes or anaerobes was not detected during this period. Chemoprophylaxis against bacterial endocarditis does appear indicated in patients cardiovascular disease undergoing procedure.
