摘要: Extinction in open space of flames from pool fires by downwardly directed water sprays has been investigated on two linear scales, one three times larger than the other. Circular were employed as fire sources, mostly form gas discharge (methane) a horizontal sand surface but also, to limited extent, heptane pools. The results are presented normalized plots based scaling theory verified previous study. data methane insensitive initial spray angle nozzle discharge. consistent with an engineering relation showing extinction flow rate approximately proportional effective diameter, and 0.4-power both height freeburn heat release rate. This result interpreted indicate that spray-induced dilution flammable is major factor extinguishing gaseous liquid this study (n-heptane) investigations (gasoline, JP-5) data, except for somewhat higher rates at extinction.
