Evaluation of the World Health Organization's family planning decision-making tool: Improving health communication in Nicaragua

摘要: The World Health Organization has led the development of a Decision-Making Tool for Family Planning Clients and Providers (DMT) to improve quality family planning counseling. This study investigates DMTs impact on health communication in Nicaragua. Fifty nine service providers Nicaragua were videotaped with 426 clients 3 months before 4 after attending training workshop DMT. videotapes coded both provider client communication. After intervention increased their efforts identify respond needs involve decision-making process screen educate new about chosen method. While DMT had smaller than general did become more forthcoming situation wishes. greater sessions which chose contraceptive method as compared visits by returning check-up or resupply. proved effective job aid regardless level education. Job aids have potential even especially when limited education supervision. (authors)
