摘要: Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with acute stroke and other cardiovascular diseases in the developed world. Low 25-hydroxyvitamin (25OHD) described some populations Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) spite of adequate sunshine all year round. There is no information on magnitude vitamin among patients Uganda or SSA. The aim this study was to determine burden characteristics stroke, most common form events We conducted a cross-sectional between October 2012 March 2013. consecutively recruited 142 subjects admitted medical wards Mulago hospital. administered pre-tested questionnaire participants, did detailed physical examination laboratory evaluation. Serum levels 25OHD were determined using an electrochemiluminescence assay. Data analyzed STATA version 12 software. prevalence (25OHD < 20 ng/ml) 15 %. Longer hours exposure decreased likelihood significantly (adjusted OR 0.85, p = 0.03). Higher HDL cholesterol had significant inverse association 0.15, p = 0.02). In addition, increased rising age 1.03, p = 0.05). relatively low Uganda. With increasing longevity indoor lifestyles may assume greater role tropical sub Saharan Africa. Future studies mechanisms its relationship outcomes be necessary.
