摘要: Nonhealing wounds of the lower equine limb represent a challenging model. The platelet is natural source myriad growth factors and cytokines that promote wound healing. This study evaluates potential derived to enhance healing in limb. Platelets were isolated from horse blood activated with thrombin, process known induce factor release. produced gel composed platelet-rich plasma (PRP). To test this all-natural healant, 2.5-cm(2) full thickness cutaneous created below knee hock thoroughbred horse. Wounds treated PRP or left untreated. Sequential biopsies collected at Days 7, 36, 79 postwounding permitted comparison temporal expression differentiation markers repair. hypothesis exhibit more rapid epithelial enhanced organization dermal collagen compared controls, tissues stained for cytokeratin 10, suprabasal marker, reestablishment was evaluated by trichrome staining. gel-treated Day 7 expressed intense 10 staining near junction epidermal layers, while control less restricted apical layers distal junction. By 79, equal both groups. However, contained abundant, dense bundles oriented parallel each other overlying epithelium, whereas fewer fibers randomly. Thus, treatment induced accelerated tissue organized, interlocking bundles. reveals novel healant repair injuries previously deemed untreatable.
