Demographic change, differential ageing, and public policy in rural and regional Australia: a three-state case study.

摘要: This paper takes a differential demographic change in six rural settlement categories within and regional Australia as the starting point for measurement of ageing using Relative Ageing Index which compares sub-populations with national norm. The spatial units employed are 412 communities, approximated by social catchments each consisting country town its surrounding dispersed population. study covers period from 1981 to 2006 includes areas New South Wales, Victoria, Australia, excluding major cities, peri-urban areas, remote rangelands. It examines selection recommended further analysis report ‘Demographic Change Liveability Panel’, one three advisory panels established 2010 then Commonwealth Government seeking develop sustainable population strategy Australia. profiles produced whole area, individual categories, urban components category separately. Results show that is least advanced ‘regional cities’, most ‘sea change’, but concern agriculture-based where it exacerbates effects overall decline. In all element exceeded component. emphasise vital role cities’ future public policy development supported ameliorative collaborative measures their communities.
