摘要: As a result of the undesired action opioids on gastrointestinal (GI) tract, patients receiving opioid medication for chronic pain often experience opioid-induced bowel dysfunction (OBD), most common and debilitating symptom which is constipation. Based clinical comprehensive MEDLINE literature review, this paper provides primary care physician with an overview prevalence, pathophysiology burden OBD. Patients OBD suffer from wide range symptoms including constipation, decreased gastric emptying, abdominal cramping, spasm, bloating, delayed GI transit formation hard dry stools. can have serious negative impact quality life (QoL) daily activities that feel able to perform. To relieve constipation associated OBD, use laxatives chronically (associated risks) or alter/abandon their medication, potentially sacrificing analgesia.
