摘要: In this paper, we examine the relationship between student engagement and social studiesliteracy, exploring possible connections students’ reading interests practices andsocial studies learning. With a sample of 802 secondary students from five schools in one urbancommunity, use complementary methods to explore survey interview data. Descriptiveanalysis data indicated that study participants often perceived educationin school as boring irrelevant. Nevertheless, qualitative analysis asubsample revealed many young people describe using texts dimensions theiridentities well themes struggle conflict. We these findings illuminateconnections youths’ concerns enduring problems taken up by thesocial sciences, arguing attention has potential engage studentsand develop their thinking literacy studies.
